Mike has practiced with Fortson, Bentley & Griffin, P.A. since August of 1999. His practice focuses on residential and commercial real estate purchase and sales, loan closings, leasing transactions, real estate development, land use and zoning. Mike also serves as general counsel for Jackson EMC, Walton EMC and the Athens Area Association of Realtors.
Between undergraduate studies and entering law school, Mike served in the United States Navy as an active duty Supply Corps Officer from 1990 to 1996, serving on the USS Antietam (CG-54) home ported in Long Beach, California and at the Navy Supply Corps School (NSCS) in Athens, Georgia.
Mike currently serves on the Board of the Rotary Club of Oconee County as the Rotary Foundation Chair; he is the Secretary of the Notre Dame Club of Athens; he sits on the Oconee Advisory Board of BankSouth; and he’s a member of the Oconee Advisory Board of the United Way of Northeast Georgia. Mike is an active member and former Chairperson of the Associate Council of the Athens Area Homebuilders Association. He is also an active member and past Chairperson of the Oconee County Chamber of Commerce. Mike and his wife, Lisa, reside in Oconee County with their golden-doodle, Murphy, while their two children, Connor and Madison, work and attend college respectively outside the Athens-area. They are members of the Catholic Center at the University of Georgia.
