Back to Land Use & Zoning Overview

Riparian Buffers

Georgia has a number of laws and regulations relating to riparian buffer zones, which are areas alongside the banks of water bodies in which land disturbance and construction activities are prohibited or highly regulated. The state-mandated buffer requirements vary depending upon the type of water body, and many local governments have adopted their own requirements that require buffer zones that are wider than the zones required by Georgia law.

At Fortson, Bentley and Griffin, our real estate attorneys have a tremendous amount of experience relating to riparian buffer regulations, the enforcement of the regulations, and variances relating to the regulations. Due to our experience with these matters and our experience with state and local officials, we are able to resolve any issues in a timely and cost effective manner.
