Guardianship and Conservatorship
We represent clients with respect to the appointment of guardians and conservators of persons who cannot manage their personal or financial affairs, and we assist the guardians and conservators in fulfilling the duties imposed by these roles. Our services include preparing all applicable filings with the probate court and representation in all probate court proceedings.
Elder Law
We provide services to assist elderly persons who concerned about losing their ability to manage their personal care and financial affairs. Such services often include advice about long term management of assets by third parties and eligibility for public benefits such and Medicaid and SSI. In many cases our representation involves the creation of revocable trusts, general powers of attorney and advance directives for health care.
Planning for Persons with Disabilities
Our attorneys assist clients with disabilities with legal planning for their long term needs. We advise the parents or other family members of disabled persons on how they can effectively provide for them, with careful regard for preserving eligibility for Medicaid and other public benefits. The firm provides advice about planning options, drafts special needs trusts, powers of attorney, advance directives for health care and other documents as appropriate, and advises trustees of trusts for the benefit of disabled persons concerning trust administration.
Veterans Affairs Planning
The federal government, through the Department of Veterans Affairs ("VA"), provides little-known pension and disability benefits to veterans of the United States military and widows of veterans. We assist clients with determining eligibility and obtaining benefits available through the VA. Such representation will be provided by an attorney who has been accredited by the VA.
